What Does The Course Cover?

The aim of the Level 3 NVQ Diploma Steel Erecting is to develop and recognise the knowledge, skills and competence of individuals who specialise in steel erecting in the construction and engineering industries.

  • Contribute to effective working relationships in steel erection
  • Work safely and minimise risk in steel erection
  • Identify and deal with hazards and emergencies in steel erection
  • Prepare structural leads for moving and installing
  • Move structural steel sections
  • Install structural steelwork components
  • Work safely at height on steel structures
  • Assemble bolted joints in structural steelwork

Candidates may also complete any of the following additional units, however, completion of these are not required:

How is the Level 3 NVQ Diploma Steel Erecting assessed?

The Level 3 NVQ Diploma Steel Erecting is competence-based meaning that candidates must demonstrate the level of competence described in the units.

Assessment is the process of measuring a candidate’s skill, knowledge and understanding against the standards set in the qualification. The qualifications will be assessed in a work environment and in accordance with the Construction Skills’ Consolidated Assessment Strategy for Construction and the Built Environment, as well as being assessed by an appropriately experienced and qualified assessor.

Each candidate is required to produce a portfolio of evidence which demonstrates their achievement of all of the learning outcomes and assessment criteria for each unit. Evidence can include:
