Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Management

What Does The Course Cover?

The Level 6 NVQ Diploma Construction Site Management qualification will develop knowledge and skills required for candidates to be a knowledgeable, qualified construction site manager.  The qualification is appropriate for those working as construction site managers in building and civil engineering, highways maintenance and repair, residential development, conservation or demolition. Content will include health and safety, site set up, pre-start procedures, environmental considerations, planning, resourcing, quality, customer satisfaction and handover.

All candidates will complete the following mandatory modules:

  • Developing and Maintaining Good Occupational Working Relationships in the Workplace
  • Allocating Work and Checking People’s Performance in the Workplace
  • Implementing and Maintaining Systems for Managing Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace
  • Evaluating and Selecting Work Methods to Meet Project or Operational Requirements in the Workplace
  • Monitoring Construction Related Project Activities in the Workplace
  • Controlling Project Progress Against Agreed Quality Standards in the Workplace
  • Controlling Project Progress Against Agreed Programmes in the Workplace
  • Managing Personal Development in a Construction-related Workplace

Beyond the mandatory modules, the course content will vary depending on which pathway the candidate chooses. Each pathway will have a mixture of mandatory and optional modules. The available pathways are:

  • Pathway 1: Building and Civil Engineering
  • Pathway 2: Highways and Maintenance Repair
  • Pathway 3: Residential Development
  • Pathway 4: Conservation
  • Pathway 5: Demolition

Who Is This Course Aimed At?

The Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Management is aimed at experienced construction site managers that oversee larger projects and sites. They will have the authority, accountability and decision-making that comes with larger site management roles. As a minimum they will be involved in:

  • Controlling project progress
  • Allocating work and checking performance
  • Controlling project cost and quantities
  • Monitoring quality standards
  • Monitoring environmental factors and sustainability
  • Establishing project dimensional control criteria
  • Organising, monitoring and controlling supplier of materials
  • Implementing and managing health and safety systems

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification but candidates must have the potential and opportunity to gain this qualification successfully.

In order to meet the assessment criteria candidates should be working in the role of construction site manager (or similar) in building and civil engineering, highways maintenance and repair, residential development, conservation or demolition.

Assessment

This qualification is competence-based meaning that candidates must demonstrate the level of competence described in the units.

Assessment is the process of measuring a candidate’s skill, knowledge and understanding against the standards set in the qualification. The qualification must be assessed in line with the Construction Sector Qualifications Strategy and must be internally assessed by an appropriately experienced and qualified assessor.

Each candidate is required to produce a portfolio of evidence which demonstrates their achievement of all of the learning outcomes and assessment criteria for each unit. Evidence can include:

  • Observation report by assessor
  • Assignments/projects/reports
  • Professional discussion
  • Witness testimony
  • Candidate product
  • Worksheets
  • Record of oral and written questioning
  • Recognition of Prior Learning
