What Does The Course Cover?

The Level 5 NVQ Diploma in Controlling Lifting Operations qualification provides a nationally recognised qualification for individuals who specialise in planning the preparation of site and work activities and planning the lifting activities using cranes and/or lifting equipment to demonstrate their competence.

All candidates will complete the following mandatory modules:

  • Developing and maintaining good occupational working relationships in the workplace
  • Planning Lifting Activities Using Cranes and/or Lifting Equipment in the Workplace
  • Planning and Establishing Health, Safety, Welfare and Environmental Systems for Lifting Operations in the Workplace
  • Planning Activities and Resources to Meet Work Requirements in the Workplace
  • Evaluating and Selecting Work Methods to Meet Project or Operational Requirements in the Workplace
  • Planning the Preparation of the Site for the Project or Operation in the Workplace
  • Identifying, Allocating and Planning the Deployment and Use of Plant, Equipment or Machinery in the Workplace

Who Is This Course Aimed At?

The Level 5 NVQ Diploma Controlling Lifting Operations is aimed at candidates that undertake the duties of a of Lift Planner / Appointed Person – i.e. those individuals that are responsible for planning the execution and safety of the lifting operation.

In their day to day role candidates will analyse, calculate and specify a procedure and detail the method of executing the lifting operation, confirming both good practice and regulatory requirements are met.

How is the Level 5 NVQ Diploma Controlling Lifting Operations assessed?

This qualification is competence-based meaning that candidates must demonstrate the level of competence described in the units.

Assessment is the process of measuring a candidate’s skill, knowledge and understanding against the standards set in the qualification. The qualifications will be assessed in a work environment and in accordance with the Construction Skills’ Consolidated Assessment Strategy for Construction and the Built Environment, as well as being assessed by an appropriately experienced and qualified assessor.

Each candidate is required to produce a portfolio of evidence which demonstrates their achievement of all of the learning outcomes and assessment criteria for each unit. Evidence can include:
